Sensory Scribe for Windows can transcribe audio in two different ways β€” by loading an existing audio file, or by capturing audio playing through your browser or media player.

Method 1: Loading an existing audio file (MP3)

Use this method to transcribe a pre-recorded audio file stored on your PC or network drive.

  1. Select New Recording in Scribe.
  2. Choose a category and file name.
  3. Click Use existing audio file (bottom-right of the New Recording screen).
  4. Windows Explorer opens β€” browse to your MP3 file and select it.
  5. The transcription setup begins (the Captions window opens). Click Start Recording when ready.
File format: The audio file must be in MP3 format. If you have an MP4 video file, use Method 2 below β€” play the video in a media player and let Scribe capture the output.
Volume note: Your PC speaker volume can be muted or at any level and transcription will still run correctly. Scribe accesses the audio data directly β€” what you hear through your speakers does not affect the transcription.

Method 2: Transcribing audio from a browser or media player

Use this method to transcribe a YouTube video, podcast, streaming audio, or any other audio playing through your PC.

  1. Start playing the audio in your browser or media player.
  2. Open Scribe and select New Recording.
  3. Click Start Recording β€” Scribe will begin capturing and transcribing the audio output automatically.
Volume note: Your PC speaker volume can be muted or at any level and transcription will still occur. The Captions window must be running as normal.

Transcription runs in real time

Both methods transcribe in real time to produce the most accurate results. You can minimise Scribe and use your PC for other tasks while transcription continues in the background.
