Sensory Scribe can transcribe audio files recorded in the past on any device. Ensure the file is in MP3 format and transfer it to your PC or network drive before starting.

Note on video files: If you have an MP4 video file, Scribe can transcribe its audio by playing the video live in a media player on your PC β€” Scribe will capture the audio output automatically. For loading a file directly for transcription, the format must be MP3.

Select New Recording in Scribe.

Choose a file name, then select Use existing audio file. This opens Windows Explorer β€” browse to your MP3 file and select it. The transcription setup will begin (the Captions window will open). Then click Start Recording when you are ready.

Transcription in progress

Transcription of an existing audio file runs in real time to generate the best accuracy results. You can minimise Scribe and use your PC for other tasks while transcription continues in the background.

Turning the speaker volume down to a low level is fine and will not affect transcription. However, fully muting your speakers may stop the transcription process β€” keep the volume at a low level rather than muted if you want to work quietly.
