Use live recording to capture meetings, lectures, seminars or any event where audio is being spoken in person or through a connected microphone.

Recording consent: Please check with all participants that recording and transcription is acceptable before starting a session.
Tip: For best accuracy, an external USB or Bluetooth microphone is recommended β€” particularly when the speaker is at a distance.

Starting and stopping

  1. Press ⌘ R to start recording. The transcript begins building in real time.
  2. Speak clearly into your microphone. Watch the transcript appear as you speak.
  3. Press ⌘ R again to stop recording. The session is saved automatically.

Adding colour markers during a recording

Markers tag specific moments in the audio so you can jump back to them during playback. Drop a marker at any point during a live recording using these shortcuts:

MarkerShortcutSuggested use
Page Marker⌘ βŒƒ PSection breaks, topic changes
Red Marker⌘ βŒƒ 1Critical points, action items
Green Marker⌘ βŒƒ 2Key decisions, important information
Blue Marker⌘ βŒƒ 3Questions, items to follow up
Black Marker⌘ βŒƒ 4General notes, speaker changes
Note: The correct shortcuts use Command+Control (⌘ βŒƒ). These differ from what may be shown on the Scribe for Mac product web page, which is scheduled for update.
