Privacy
All on-device processing: Scribe Mobile processes all speech recognition entirely on your iPhone or iPad using Apple's on-device speech framework. No audio or transcript data is sent to external servers. Your recordings are stored only on your device.
Scribe Mobile requests two permissions:
- Microphone — used solely to capture audio during recording. Audio is never transmitted.
- Speech Recognition — uses Apple's on-device framework to transcribe speech. No audio is sent to Apple or any third party for this processing.
You can view and manage these permissions at any time in Settings → Scribe Mobile on your device.
Troubleshooting
The Record button is disabled or greyed out
- Check that both Microphone and Speech Recognition permissions have been granted. Go to Settings → Scribe Mobile and enable both.
- Speech recognition may be temporarily unavailable (this can happen after an iOS update or when the device is under load). Wait a moment and try again.
Transcription seems inaccurate
- Move to a quieter environment — background noise is the most common cause of errors.
- Speak more slowly and clearly.
- Ensure the microphone is not obstructed by a case, your hand, or clothing.
A recording will not play back
- Check that the recording completed successfully — a recording interrupted by a phone call or app switch may be incomplete.
- Close and reopen the Scribe Mobile app, then try opening the recording from the Recordings Manager again.
The app asks for permissions again
- iOS may re-request permissions after an operating system update. Tap Allow when prompted — this is normal behaviour.
